Seven decades of metal distribution under one company name. Four Southern California locations. Former president who led the company's expansion into Phoenix and San Jose — and spent decades building industry and community along the way.
Industrial Metal Supply Company (IMS) has been making metal easy for 70 years. Founded in 1948 in Sun Valley, California, the company grew into one of the largest metals distributors in the Western U.S. — serving fabricators, machine shops, contractors, and hobbyists with a full range of aluminum, steel, brass, and copper products.
Neil Sherman served as President through a defining period of the company's growth. In 2018 — IMS's 70th anniversary year — he transitioned the presidency to Hans Sherman and stayed on as Chairman. Under his leadership, the company expanded from its Sun Valley headquarters into Phoenix (2022) and San Jose (2022), reaching four locations across the West Coast and Southwest.
Beyond running a metal distributor, Neil's career spans decades of industry and community leadership. Past president of the National Association of Aluminum Distributors (NAAD) and the Joist Division Association (JDA). Executive-in-Residence at Woodbury University's School of Business. Active with USC's Roski School of Art and Design, Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra, and the Children's Cancer Network. Co-founder of the California Winter Special Olympics.
